Climbing Llyn y Fan Fach, South Wales.

Llyn y Fan Fach is a lake situated within the margin of the  Black Mountains of Carmarthenshire and lying within the Brecon Beacons National Park, so as you can imagine its a wonderful site for the eyes. Several birds can also be spotted within this area including the Red kite, Buzzard's & Kestrel's.
However, the day we chose to climb there was a weather storm warning within the area, making the path up empty of both humans and wildlife, with only farmers sheep to see! The wind was strong, but SO worth the fight on the ascent.
There is a bothy next to the lake where you can take shelter, but there are no windows so lighting is poor. Due to the blustery weather I used this myself for a few moments to gather myself for the decent.

Being in Wales there are many folklore legends and this Lake holds it's very own called "The Lady of the Lake"
The story goes as a young man agreed to marry a lady who arose from the lake itself, with the only condition that he wouldn't hit her himself 3 times. They were happy for many years, built their own family home and had 3 children to fill it. However, over time the man did hit his now wife 3 times. But not in anger, by gentle nudges such as for laughing at a funeral.  As a result, the beautiful lady had to return to the lake, leaving him with alone in their house with their children.

The walk up has a good path for the majority of the way as pictured and on average it took a total of around two to three hours with photo stops and rests.
The afternoon wouldn't be complete without getting the car stuck on the grass, having a farmer and 5 random people pushing the car free. (There is a better place to park, i promise...)
